Throughout the second half of the 15th century, two styles of painting coexisted in Europe and especially in Italy: the linear Gothic style often still close to “flat paint” in two dimensions, and the “modern” style, which is only back to the aesthetics of antiquity, which tends towards a three-dimensional representation of the world.
