Still-lifes had occupied a large part of the artist’s oeuvre over the course of his career, but as he developed his style, his approach to these compositions is much more experimental. Pot bleu evidences his more daring approach in compositional arrangement, as he bunches the tablecloth in front of the bouquet so that the underlying fabric is just as dominant as any other feature in the composition.”
