The breathtaking views of the vast chasm undoubtedly captured the artist’s attention, as he would revisit the natural site on multiple occasions throughout his life and even wrote, “Of all places on earth the great canyon of Arizona is the most inspiring in its pictorial possibilities.”[1].”

  1. A place on the south rim of the canyon is named Moran Point. One website says that’s either for Thomas Moran or for his brother Peter, who also explored the area.

    As it turns out, I just visited Moran’s grave yesterday. Love his work and his connection/friendship with William Henry Jackson could make a good subject for a documentary
