“Although the motif is generic, the painting reflects the artist’s situation during his vacation on Lake Thun, where he stayed from late September 1913 to spring 1914. “People at the Blue Lake” was created during this particularly happy time for the Macke couple. One year later, Macke, only 27 years old, died on the battlefield in Champagne.”
