Endre Penovác: ‘Miracle on Paper’

“The way of watercolor painting is like our world. The predictable, plannable and the unpredictable, unexpected happenings make [the painting] complete. Therefore, I apply watercolor technique in a way that allows paint and water to create miracles on the paper. Man, too, is like this, a merger of sense and sensibility.”  Endre Penovác

Penovác Quotes Camus

In an interview with Canvas, A Blog for Saatchi Art, August 26, 2016, Mr. Penovác says the best artistic advice he has ever been given is to have humility. Penovác explains by borrowing a quote from Camus, saying:

“However … after prolonged research on myself,  I brought out the fundamental duplicity of the human being. Then I realized, as a result of delving in my memory, that modesty helped me to shine, humility to conquer, and virtue to oppress. ”  Penovac

  2. Beautiful artworks and the quote regarding virtues is really interesting. I like the idea that a virtue can create its opposition.

I’m very interested in trying watercolors. It looks so easy, but I know from personal experience how messy I can be!

    1. I would love to learn watercolor, too. The mess, however, is probably inevitable. lol Thanks for visiting, EC! 😎

    1. I love this, too, Rosaliene. Looks like fun to my (very unskilled) eye because there seems to always be an element of chance – even with the masters of the technique. Thanks for visiting! 🙂
