Couldn’t help but wonder how Bruegel actually executed this piece: It is unlikely that he could get dozens of people to pose for this scene ALL the while he was painting.
And photography wasn’t available yet, for him to work from a photograph. Could this have been largely generated from an amazing ability to imagine/create something from memory?

I have read that his sons continued his work in the same style by copying sketched patterns he left behind when he died. I would love to learn more about how he did this. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Dee. 🙂🌺

I am actually familiar with this painting from a hidden object art game I played probably ten years ago. There is just so much happening in the painting! And I love the thoughts on the different people and elements. Thank you again for a great post!
