    The extreme backlighting of the figure seems so novel and impudent! It turns everything upside down. The putative “subject” is a silhouette and the background glows foregroundedly. Ah, with genius nothing is sacred, thank goodness! I’m glad to be introduced to this painting.

    1. Every time I look at this painting I squint to see the features of her face…..Vuillard must be laughing – “impudent” is a perfect word! As always, thanks for commenting.
