Great art is like a tree, which grows in a particular place and has a trunk, leaves, blossoms, boughs, fruit, and roots of its own. I am always surprised at the work around 1914…the “great war” (and events leading up to it) must have been a shattering experience for all around, manifest in this work and the works of Braque, Picasso, etc…. I can especially see it in this painting Cubism, I realize, began slightly earlier, and I would like to really know how the world was thinking — breaking apart all the old assumptions and examining anew..

    1. Similar thoughts run through my mind, and I read as much history as art on most days. The fascination never ceases.

OH!! – that reminds me!!! I found your book about baseball and it is AWESOME!. It brought back so many memories of growing up…. my brothers lived at the field. LOVE the book – both text and illustrations are quite special. Congratulations!! ❤️👍😎
