I am always surprised at the work around 1914…the “great war” (and events leading up to it) must have been a shattering experience for all around, manifest in this work and the works of Braque, Picasso, etc…. I can especially see it in this painting Cubism, I realize, began slightly earlier, and I would like to really know how the world was thinking — breaking apart all the old assumptions and examining anew..
