Mozart: Clarinet quintet K581 in A major

Pierre Bonnard, Rue à Montmartre, Le Sacré-Coeur, Signed Bonnard (lower right), Oil on canvas, 19 1/4 by 16 in., Image Source: Sotheby’s

“Bonnard’s fascination with the vibrant urban landscape of Paris can be traced to his paintings of the mid-1890s…The spectacle of urban modernity provided a colorful source of inspiration, and the artist was drawn to the variety of subjects it offered. His city scenes reflect a unique joie de vivre achieved through the use of bright tones and a strong sense of energy and movement. In Rue à Montmartre, Le Sacré-Coeur, Bonnard provides a distinctly elevated view which calls to mind the Japanese woodblock prints that so heavily influenced him after his visit to an exhibition of Far Eastern art at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1890.

  2. You may recall that a snippet of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto appeared in the 1985 movie “Out of Africa.”

Lovely! Clarinet was my instrument, and Mozart my favorite. One of my competition pieces was the Allegro from his Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K. 622.

    1. Thank you – that is a magnificent performance you linked! I already had it marked in youtube, so it is already scheduled somewhere on my blog, but I don’t know when. (I have scheduled through much of 2024 and can’t keep up with it all, so much so that I am surprised and delighted to open my blog every morning to see what’s next, because it’s been so long since I wrote the post.) And I LOVE the clarinet – especially in pieces like these. Thanks for sharing your memories, Linda. 🙂🌺

It always astonishes me, when viewing antique urban scenes, how few people there werein the same surroundings in which we presently form teeming masses!

Love this. Thank you for sharing. Clarinet is my instrument, although I can only rest my reed and enjoy greats, such as her. 🥰

    1. I particularly enjoy this performance, too. Flute here, but (ahem…) that was decades ago. 🙂
