  3. I couldn’t find an explanation for the Brazil that was his middle name.

    1. You have made me curious. I found this: “According to the book More Irish families by Edward Mac Lysaght, Brassil or Brazil, or even O Brazil, are Anglicised versions of the Irish surname Ó Breasail, mainly found in counties Waterford and Offaly.” Since Prendergast is also a surname of Irish/Welsh origin, perhaps Brazil is a family name passed down from Irish ancestors (?).
