Who Is Orhan Pamuk?
Orhan Pamuk, one of Turkey’s most prominent writers and professor at Columbia University, was born on June 7, 1952, in Istanbul. He is known for works that blend historical, cultural, and philosophical themes, often exploring the tensions between East and West, tradition and modernity. His major novels include The White Castle (1985), My Name Is Red (1998), Snow (2002), and The Museum of Innocence (2008). Pamuk won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2006, the first Turkish citizen to receive this honor, for his ability to weave intricate narratives that reflect Istanbul’s cultural complexity.

At Sunnyside - Where Truth and Beauty Meet 
I just picked up my first book by this author at a local thrift store here in America ~ and all of a sudden his name is everywhere! The book certainly did paint a wonderfully nuanced portrait of a culture in some ways so alike to and in others so different from our own, highlighting both the transient and eternal aspects of ageless social movements. When one finishes reading, one feels that one has visited his country much more thoroughly than one could ever actually do oneself.
