Hauser and Lana Trotovsek performing Erbarme Dich, Mein Gott from St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra at the Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb, October 2017. Elisabeth Fuchs, conductor.
I don’t always read the entire Wiki entry, but in this case I’m glad I did, for I learned what’s represented in the painting — and laughed. To actually play in waves like that, the students might have imbibed a little at a seaside café!

Absolutely divine. Bach, in the past, present, and future, a genius. A remarkable performance by Trokovsek and Hauser. Thank you for sharing.

I’ve had a recording of the complete oratorio since I was in my 20s.
